Useful and realistic ways in which to best implement L2L in the curriculum
Mike Adnitt, High Ridge Specialist School Sports College, South Humberside
Well organised and well pitched, plenty of choice – comprehensive and interesting, excellent venue!
Clare Cooke, Ashbishop Ilsley RC Technology College, West Midlands
Clarified thinking on our next step. Very useful to see and hear the experiences of other schools
Daniel Sadler, Furze Platt Senior School, Berkshire
Join over 1,000 schools in the UK’s best networked Learning to Learn community. This year’s Conference is about creative approaches to real challenges. The themes are based on what you told us you wanted:
We have Campfires, Caves, Watering Holes and Life itself on offer!
Campfires – presentations and keynotes from people with stories to tell!
Watering Holes - learn from your peers with 24 sessions to choose from!
Caves – use the opportunity to reflect upon your own practice
Life itself – build a relationship with Alite and find out how our national support network can help your school be even more successful
The conference will be hosted by Alistair Smith and Hywel Roberts.
Alistair will be on hand to give advice and sign copies of the new Learning to Learn and Happiness books.
Use the opportunity to find out about L2, our Thinking Skills and Engaging Parents products and our recently released whole school software - L2 Observe and L2Plan.
In Campfires in Cyberspace by David D Thornburg* he talks about conferences being like primitive societies with Campfires, Caves, Watering Holes and Life itself as opportunities for creative thought and learning. We used his model to develop our approach to our National Conference – “Creative Solutions” March 19 2010, Ricoh Centre Coventry. Our six themes will be experienced through Campfires, Caves, Watering Holes and Life!
The campfire…
For thousands of years, storytelling was a mechanism for teaching. Through storytelling, the wisdom of elders was passed to the next generation. Keynote speakers, workshop leaders are often storytellers with some better than others!
The watering hole…
The watering hole is a place where we learn from our peers. The learning at the watering hole is less formal. It ‘s peer teaching, a sharing of gossip, news, dreams and discoveries that drive us forward. Each participant at the watering hole is both learner and teacher at the same time.
The cave…
The cave is where we came in contact with ourselves. Learners have needed, on occasion, to isolate themselves from others in order to gain special insights. Time to reflect and absorb and test against our own values and beliefs.
Life...
Whether our insights are established through campfires, watering holes, caves, or (more likely) a combination of the three, we don't really know what we know until we have tried to apply it.
